Mortar Board

Mortar Board is a national honor society of college and university seniors. The honor society recognizes in its membership the qualities of superior scholastic ability, outstanding and continual leadership, and dedicated service to the college or university community. The purpose of Mortar Board is to promote equal opportunities among all people, to support the ideals of the university, to advance a spirit of scholarship, to recognize and encourage leadership, and to establish the opportunity for meaningful exchange of ideas as individuals and as a group.

Mortar Board considers both men and women who are outstanding in the areas of scholarship, leadership, and service for membership. Mortar Board does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, disabling conditions, ethnic origin, creed, socioeconomic class, affiliation, age, or marital status. Achafoa Chapter of Mortar Board at Oklahoma State University does, however, require a 3.2 overall grade point average and junior status (60 hours) for membership.

Mortar Board meetings are generally held every other week on Sunday nights at 6:00 p.m. Weekly meetings are usually required when new projects are undertaken at the beginning of each semester. Members are required to attend 10 meetings/events per semester. Additional time commitments during the rest of the week may also be required for special events. Moreover, Mortar Board maintains a small, select membership, so it is imperative that all members remain active. Applicants are strongly encouraged to evaluate their expected time commitments, and ensure that they will be able to maintain active status if selected, before submitting their applications.
